Please note that our programs and weekly sessions are now ON HOLD as we navigate the "new normal" of 2021-22 and adapt to the effects of a pandemic on our daily routines, educational systems, and evolving needs of our kids around the globe.
We're not sure of the direction, but your ideas are welcome. We invite you to submit a proposal and help support the continuation of KidsCampLive as we approach the academic school year 2022. Write to joanlucci@gmail.com for the inside scoop. Kids need other kids: Even more during a pandemic. When the outbreak of COVID-19 forced the closing of schools, churches, recreational facilities, and even parks around the globe, families got a little closer. Adjusting to stay-at-home mandates has affected our way of life in both positive and challenging ways.
In our homes, living rooms transform into classrooms, kitchens-to-science labs, and quiet bedrooms-to-libraries. Parents and childcare workers are getting creative, finding alternatives to the playground, lunchroom, and assembly hall. We must provide our children with a place to socialize in a safe yet stimulating setting. The bad news. And the Good news. School, sports, and faith are the primary sources of community support for children and their families. In a matter of weeks, our relationship with these institutions changed completely. Parents agree that what's most important to their children is their friends. KidsCampLive provides a safe place for maintaining familiar friendships and forging new ones--virtual, but personal-- without breathing the same air. Our kids miss their classmates and teachers. What if there were an easy, inexpensive, and safe way to fill the void during this time of global social distancing? KidsCampLive provides an interactive, intercultural, and mediated social platform for children around the globe. The initial network and programs are geared to English-speaking children in primary school (Grades K-5). We offer a small group experience--a balanced gender mix within a recommended age-range. The small group experience means every camper gets their share of attention. Although there is an e-learning element, KidsCampLive is more like summer camp. Our goal is to facilitate social and cultural interaction, not intending to replace “homeschooling” or “tutoring.” Rather, it benefits and enhances the learning experience for kids being taught inside or outside of traditional classrooms. Unlike traditional classrooms or summer camps, kids on the network interact with kids from coast-to-coast and around the globe. Imagine making a new friend from across town, another city, or another country. Imagine new friends from Italy, Germany, Brazil, Cambodia, Bali, Dubai, or Tanzania. And who knows? . . . If you live in our launch area of San Diego, Santa Fe, or Boston--where good news travels fast--you might even bump into a few familiar faces! Say ola, bonjour, shalom, ciao, bon dia, aloha . . . "Kids, say hello to your Camp Counselor, Brianna. Say hey to the other campers." Ready to get started? Our weekly programs are currently on hold. Click here to get on our mailing list.
We anticipate offering special events (mostly free or donation based). When weekly camp sessions return, you will have an opportunity to observe and participate on a trial basis. Weekly programs were every Wednesday and Thursday, 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern). |
